"Chronos and his child" by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli

This porcelain plate features the stunning 17th century painting "Chronos and his child" by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli.

Kronos ascended the throne after defeating his father Uranus (the Sky). Soon, he was warned by a prophecy that he would be dethroned by his own son. In order to avoid this fate, he swallowed each of his children as they were born. The last child, Zeus, was spared because Cronus’s wife Rhea handed him over to Gaia as soon he was born, to be raised in secret. Eventually Zeus confronted Cronus and imprisoned him, but not before Cronus had regurgitated all his siblings, who came to be known as the Olympians.

Cronus, also known as “Father Time”, represents the devouring aspect of time. His defeat symbolized the victory of Olympians over mortality and their elevation to Godhood.

All of our porcelain is kiln fired to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit to permanently fuse the image to the plate or cup, ensuring there will be no wear, fading or flaking, even after prolonged use.

The image is food- and dishwasher safe, we do recommend hand washing if your plate or cup contains gold. Dishes with gold details cannot be microwaved, they will spark.

The technology we use is also employed when creating outside tile murals or even tiles that go on the bottom of swimming pools. This means that, in contrast to heat sublimation or transfers, your image will never wear, scratch, or fade, even with everyday use. The finish is a beautiful high gloss. All ink used is completely food safe, it does not contain lead or other harmful chemicals.
